Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. is a part of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited and is responsible for Power distribution in Eight districts of Karnataka- Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Devanagere, Tumkur, Chitradurga and Ramanagara. Bescom covers an area of 41,092 sq. kms with a population of over 207 lakhs.
The company has four operating Zones- Bangalore Metropolitan Area Zone (North), Bangalore Metropolitan Area Zone (South), Bangalore Rural Area Zone and Chitradurga Zone, 9 Circles, 32 Divisions, 147 Sub-Divisions and 534 Section Offices. In the year 1999, Karnataka embarked on a major Reform of the power sector. As a first step, Karnataka Electricity Board (KEB) was dissolved and in its place, the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) was incorporated.
Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) took over the responsibility from KPTCL for the distribution of electricity in 8 districts and commenced its operations from 1st June 2002.
The BESCOM Head Quarters in K.R Circle Bengaluru has employee strength of over 14000 people. The company required a façade that was environment-friendly and sustainable, and that also offered extensive longevity. Aspect Clay Tiles fit the bill perfectly considering its sustainable and long-lasting nature. The head-office used 1,400 sq. mtr. of Aspect clay/terracota façade tiles. The project was designed by RC Architecture.
Project specifications: The installation was done with Aspect 600 x 300mm tiles size of and 50 x 50mm square Aspect louvers. Aspect Louvers as a cladding materials, added a creative element with shading functionality before the glass.
Wienerberger's Clay facade tiles under the brand name of Aspect are natural, sustainable building materials, offering major technical and architectural advantages of clay facde tiles. Clay as a building material lasts for generations. Cladding with clay tiles acts as an excellent heat insulator and thanks to its mass, ceramic has a high heat buffering capacity.
The unique feature in this project is the use of Wienerberger’s Aspect Louvers. The client was able to achieve both objectives - design and functionality by using louvers as a passive shading element. Louvers as a facade element helps achieve additional design freedom stylishly blends the passive shading functions in building architecture.
In addition to providing sun protection, Louvers renders the building’s architecture with a unique character. Creatively used louvers can loosen up large surfaces and create volume in conjunction with their shadows. Wienerbeger's Aspect Clay Ventilated Louvers can be customized to various shades, dimensions and thickness. Individual special forms such as square, rectangle and elliptical shapes are possible. Aspect Louvers can also be made available in engobes and glazes.
